Barry & Gill Goodman + Nick Lawrence
April 22, 2026
7:30 pm Free entry

English folk supremo Barry Goodman returns to the club to lead our special St George’s Night celebration. Tonight Barry and Gill will be giving their illustrated talk “Down the Canal”, the story of Britain’s canals with original songs and pictures interspersed throughout.

From foot-stomping folk to heartfelt ballads to historical commentary and story telling, Nick draws from the well of traditional and contemporary folk to compose his songs. His compositions evoke images of centuries gone by, be that wassailing in the winter, the re-telling of Viking raids in Kent, or spurned love.
In this past year, Nick has travelled around the UK performing at festivals such as England’s Medieval Festival, UK West Coast Folk Festival, Ely Folk Festival (where Nick won the Spotlight Competition), Filey Folk Festival, Sandwich Folk & Ale Festival and Rochester Sweeps Festival.
Kelvin Davies & Chloe Turner + Thursday’s Band
May 6, 2026
7:30 pm Free Entry

The last time Kelvin Davies & Chloe Turner played at the club, they very nearly brought the house down. How could we not have them back as soon as their increasingly busy schedule allowed? Kelvin and Chloe are rooted in beautifully harmonised voices and intricate guitar work. The melding of Kelvin’s Country Blues guitar mastery and unique vocal style with Chloe’s lovely renditions of Appalachian standards is a marriage made in Heaven!

There’s a bit of folk, a dash of country, a touch of Spanish, a cajun flourish, even a whisper of rock with Cambridge-based Thursday’s Band. And a healthy dose of classical, when virtuoso strings start to soar over locked-down guitars. The songs are mostly written by the various band members, but the band also has a repertoire of tunes, set against occasional covers of favourite songs.
The band consists of: Mark Gamon – guitar, voice; Matt Kelly – fiddle, mandolin, viola, voice; Rhys Wilson – guitar, voice; David Cammish – bass.Festival, Sandwich Folk & Ale Festival and Rochester Sweeps Festival.
Our regular club nights take place at The Orange Tree, Baldock, Norton Road, SG7 5AW every other Wednesday and are free unless otherwise stated. However do please bring some cash for the whip round for the performers – they always need our support! Doors open at 7:00pm, music starts at 7:30pm.
